Green= Approach or non-technical hike to start of the route. These sections can be completed without ropes as an out and back hike.

Red= Technical Section of the route recommended for experienced technical canyoneers. Will require the use of ropes and an experienced leader to safely descend.

Yellow= Exit hike or return route. Usually goes something like, “ Follow the drainage back to the main trail.”

Sedona Canyoneering:

Exploring the canyons, caves, and technical adventure routes of Sedona, Arizona . Sedona Canyoneering routes are characterized by slickrock watercourses that are typically dry, but see seasonal bouts of precipitation. Sedona is easy to access in comparison to other canyoneering regions, attracting adventurers of varied skillsets and backgrounds. Sedona Canyoneering is most enjoyable during the cooler months, but can still be worthwhile during the Summer if planned for accordingly.

This resource is intended for use by experienced hikers and technical canyoneers.

Commercial Guiding-

Off trail commercial guiding is prohibited by law in the Coconino National Forest.

Using The Guide

Inspired by a phenomenal growth in the sport of canyoneering, a Sedona specific resource has been created. Information on local weather, dangers, low impact practices, and how to use the technical routes page can be found here.

The best maps for free! Sedona Canyoneering provides the most current and easy to read maps. Navigation tools are meant to aid the explorer, and created to best of our knowledge and ability.

Archaeological Sites

On your adventures you will likely encounter ancient dwellings, petroglyphs, and pottery. Please respect those who came before us and the history they left behind.

Technical Routes

Technical Routes are listed in Alphabetical order under the Technical Routes tab. These routes are intended for experienced canyoneers.

Sensitive Terrain

While traveling outdoors, it is an important reminder to watch where you step.

Increasing awareness of sensitive soils and terrain is the key to preserving and protecting this sacred landscape.
